Turkey is recording developments in the defense industry. While keeping pace with trends through advancing technology, a new protective shield against drone attacks, TOLGA, is preparing to enter the inventory.

Developed against the growing kamikaze drone threat targeting armored vehicles, base areas, and critical infrastructure facilities in combat zones, "TOLGA" completed testing and reached full operational capability. Produced within the Turkish defense industry, the system was designed to neutralize low-flying targets that conventional air defense radars struggle to detect.

Detection from kilometers away and artificial intelligence (AI) tracking

Mini and micro kamikaze drones, which can bypass conventional air defense mechanisms due to their small size and low radar cross-section, are tracked by the system's radar and electro-optical cameras. Through its integrated artificial intelligence (AI) algorithm, TOLGA detects asymmetric threats in the airspace from kilometers away and can initiate automated target tracking.

Both electronic warfare and physical destruction options

Developed with domestic resources, the system offers two different response methods depending on target characteristics and threat level. Under the "Soft-Kill" capability, electronic warfare modules activate to sever the attack drone's link with its ground control station through signal jamming. When the threat persists, the "Hard-Kill" infrastructure physically destroys the hostile element in midair before it reaches its target.

Modular architecture adaptable to different platforms

One notable feature of the product is its flexible hardware architecture configured according to mission requirements. TOLGA can be deployed as a stationary surveillance and protection platform at locations such as border outposts and strategic public facilities. For convoy security and the protection of military units on the move, it can be mounted on tactical wheeled armored vehicles to provide mobile defense.

Tested against swarm drone attacks

Having completed live-fire tests and electronic warfare trials in field conditions, TOLGA demonstrated tracking capability against swarm drone attack scenarios involving simultaneous multiple targets. The system is scheduled to enter service with the Turkish Armed Forces and the General Directorate of Security soon. Following induction into domestic inventory, exports to allied countries abroad will be on the agenda.
