A rival to CapCut and Premiere: Instagram Edits arrives on desktop
Developed by Instagram and available only on mobile for a few months, the Instagram Edits tool has finally arrived on desktop following its development process.
Meta continues to prioritize Reels videos on Instagram and is finally bringing its video editing tool Edits to desktop. Available only on mobile devices for months, Instagram Edits can now be used on computers as of today.
Meta released the desktop application of Edits for Mac devices first. Mac users can now edit their videos with Edits. What are its features?
Instagram Edits launches for Mac
Named Edits for Mac, the tool comes with a multi-track timeline structure. Offering keyframe support to create dynamic transitions, the application displays detailed audio waveforms for precise editing. Meta also states that splitting, cutting, and trimming videos has been simplified in the desktop version.

The software allows importing external color profiles (LUT) and font files. The desktop version also includes Model Context Protocol support. This protocol allows artificial intelligence (AI) agents to run directly within the application and participate in editing processes.
Royalty-Free Music and Watermark-Free 4K Export
The application includes Instagram's licensed and royalty-free audio library, audio and video effects, and an unlimited automatic caption generator. Additionally, completed projects can be shared directly on Instagram profiles or downloaded to the computer for use on different platforms.
Supporting various vertical and horizontal aspect ratios, Edits for Mac allows exporting created videos in 4K resolution without any watermark. The software can be downloaded from Instagram's official website.
