With iOS 27, the iPhone Duo turns into a small laptop
The iPhone Duo went on sale and has already received its first update. Coming with the iOS 27.1 software, the phone offers extra features unlike other iPhones. One of these features turns the phone into a small laptop.
The newest member of the foldable smartphone market, iPhone Duo, went on sale around the world, including Turkey. The phone, whose unboxing videos are already being shared, came out of the box directly running specially prepared iOS 27.1 software. There is a very important detail that sets this software apart from other iPhones.
Apple has started offering native split-screen support on the device with the iOS 27 update it prepared for the foldable-screen iPhone Duo model. According to a PCMag analysis dated October 23, 2026, the new software allows two independent applications to run simultaneously on the 7.6-inch inner screen.
TRANSFORMED INTO A PORTABLE COMPUTER ALTERNATIVE
PCMag Senior Writer Gabriel Zamora stated that the new interface transforms the device into a portable computer alternative. Meanwhile, PCMag Executive Editor Eric Zeman reported in his product review that the hardware outperforms last year's Pro series and Android competitors in terms of performance.
Split-Screen and Drag-and-Drop Functions
The system allows direct data transfer from content on the left side of the screen to the application on the right side. Users can drag text or an image selected via Safari across the crease in the middle of the screen with a finger gesture and drop it into the Notes or Messages app.
Apple also integrated a pairing mechanism named "App Pairs" into the system. Thanks to this tool, two software programs used together, such as Slack and Calendar, can be saved on the home screen under a single icon. A single tap launches both applications simultaneously in a predefined layout.
Apple Pencil Support and Hardware Data
According to the PCMag evaluation, the textured nano-texture coating used on the inner surface of the device provides a higher grip feel compared to standard glass surfaces when drawing or writing formulas by hand with Apple Pencil. Users can perform operations on Math Notes in one window while watching a video in the other.
The device's storage options and technical hardware information shared by Apple are listed as follows:
| Feature | iPhone Duo Technical Details |
|---|---|
| Inner Screen Size | 7.6-inch textured (nano-texture) panel |
| Processor | Apple A20 Pro processor |
| Body Material | Titanium |
| Entry-Level Price | $1,999 (256 GB model) |
| Highest Capacity Price | $3,199 (2 TB model) |
How Does This Change Affect Users?
The update eliminates the need to switch applications for users who want to follow two different workflows simultaneously on the foldable-screen device. The cycle of opening and closing the web browser while writing an email gives way to direct side-by-side windows.
Although the device's starting price tag of 229 thousand TL continues to appeal to a high-budget user base, software flexibility is changing the primary intended use of the hardware. Individuals who edit documents and take notes for work can manage their essential tasks through a single device without carrying an external laptop.
