Travel times are getting shorter, and roads are becoming smarter. With the introduction of 5G, coordination is improving significantly.

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu made a written statement regarding Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems (C-ITS).

Minister Uraloğlu stated that Turkey has built a significant infrastructure in the field of C-ITS, noting that intelligent transport systems are among the technologies that increase traffic safety, travel comfort, and transportation efficiency. Reminding that Turkey's first C-ITS Test and Implementation Corridor was deployed between Hasdal and Istanbul Airport, Uraloğlu said, "We are testing 5G-supported intelligent transport technologies on a route of approximately 40 kilometers. We are continuing the testing of systems that enable vehicles to exchange data with roadside units and control centers."

Noting that the corridor in Istanbul also provides an important foundation for the project planned in Ankara, Uraloğlu said, "Using the knowledge and experience gained from our first implementation, we aim to expand connected and autonomous driving technologies to a wider route in Ankara. Project work is underway to create a total 247-kilometer ITS Corridor covering the 166-kilometer Ankara Ring Motorway, the 22-kilometer Gölbaşı-Oğulbey section, and the 59-kilometer Polatlı section, along the Polatlı-Gölbaşı-Ankara Ring Road route.

With this corridor, we aim to test and implement connected and autonomous vehicle technologies across a wider area," he said. Uraloğlu stated that the project aims to ensure that intelligent transport systems infrastructure works integrally with communication systems, adding that it will contribute to the development of technologies for vehicle-to-infrastructure and vehicle-to-center communication.

REAL-TIME MONITORING ON HIGHWAYS

Stating that digital infrastructure has been strengthened to make traffic management on highways more effective, Uraloğlu reported that road and traffic conditions are monitored in real time through the Main Intelligent Transport Systems Center in Ankara and regional centers. Stating that intelligent transport technologies are used in many areas, from informing drivers to increasing traffic safety, Uraloğlu said, "On our highways, we utilize signaling systems, variable message and traffic signs, meteorological information stations, camera and monitoring systems, vehicle and incident detection systems, electronic toll collection systems, and tunnel control systems."
