iOS 27.2 Quietly Brings a Feature to iPhone and iPad
Apple quietly added a feature with the iOS 27.2 and iPadOS 27.2 updates recently released for iPhones and iPads.
Apple recently released the iOS 27.2 updates for supported iPhones and iPadOS 27.2 updates for iPads. While new language support arrived for Siri, system-wide improvements were made and many more new features were added. But a feature that Apple didn't mention emerged days later.
According to a new support document published by Apple, the new feature analyzes the user's face to estimate whether they are an adult. During verification, users must turn and tilt their head by following the instructions on the screen; the system captures images of the face from four different directions.
Apple stated that the process combines analysis done both on the user's device and via Private Cloud Compute. Furthermore, the results are merged on the device, and according to Apple's statement, the images are not accessible by anyone, including the company, during the process. After the verification is successfully completed, the selfie is deleted.
AGE VERIFICATION FEATURE ARRIVES WITH iOS 27.2
This option can be offered to users who receive an age verification request, but the availability of the feature varies from region to region. When adult verification will be required also depends on regional regulations.
Situations where verification may be requested are as follows:
- Creating an Apple Account
- Installing a software update
- Accessing apps rated 18+
- Making changes to security checks
On the other hand, Apple reports that once a user successfully verifies their adult status, re-confirmation will not be requested for subsequent actions.
