iOS 27.2 Features: All the New Features Coming with iOS 27.2
Skipping the iOS 27.1 update, Apple has released the 27.2 update for all users except iPhone Duo. Here are the features and innovations coming with the iOS 27.2 update, along with the supported iPhone models.
It has been quite a while since the initial release of the iOS 27 update. Apple resolved the bugs of the new operating system with the iOS 27.0.1 update and had begun testing iOS 27.2 for new features. Now, the highly anticipated iOS 27.2 update has been rolled out to all supported iPhone models. So, what features come with the new update, and which iPhone models can install it?
As you know, Apple jumped directly from version iOS 27.0.1 to version 27.2. The foldable iPhone Duo received the 27.1 patch right out of the box. However, Apple had already prepared iOS 27.2 for all other iPhones. This update has been officially released for both other models and the iPhone Duo. We have compiled the features and innovations coming with 27.2 along with the supported iPhone models for you.
Features Coming with iOS 27.2
iOS 27.2 has arrived as the first major update of the iOS 27 series. Siri AI's memory, Messages suggestions, watching four live broadcasts simultaneously on Apple TV, and new edits in the Photos app are coming with this version.
Siri AI Remembers Past Conversations
According to Apple's statement, Siri AI can now remember past conversations with the user. Thanks to this, questions can be asked again about topics like a previously recommended restaurant. However, there is no Turkish language support for the updated Siri yet. On the other hand, Siri AI can now also gather information from the following sources:
- Photos added to messages
- Participants in calendar events
- Voice messages
In addition, Apple states that better results will be obtained from Safari history and Reading List.
The redesigned "Excluded Apps" feature allows selecting all at once which apps can access Siri, Search, and suggestions. In the previous App Access feature, apps had to be excluded one by one. Additionally, with detailed text selection, only the needed section of a Siri response can be copied.
It is also worth noting that you need an iPhone 15 Pro or a newer model for Siri AI.
Siri AI Can Be Used in New Languages
As I mentioned above, Siri AI support is not available for Turkish yet, but it can now be used in more languages, including French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish. The new assistant has not yet been launched in the European Union and mainland China.
Suggestions Return in Messages
In addition to the innovations above, suggestions have been added to Messages with iOS 27.2. The feature in question was included in the iOS 27 beta process, but was removed before launch. Suggestions display tappable shortcuts based on chat context. For example, it is possible to track a package or add a dinner invitation to the Calendar app with a single tap. Users can select which of the Calendar, Reminders, Notes, Maps, as well as Flights and Packages options will be displayed.
Apple Music, Photos and Podcast Changes
A new, black-and-white icon has arrived for the Apple Music app, which gained a brand-new design with its recent updates. The color red has been removed from the navigation bar and other accent areas of the app. This change aligns with Apple's recent Apple Music rebranding.
Additionally, captions and comments can now be edited in Shared Albums within the Photos app. A feature aimed at preventing duplicate photos has been added. Reminders are shown to users before albums expire, allowing important photos and videos to be saved.
In the Home tab of the Podcasts app, the "Up Next" section has been replaced by the "New Episodes" and "Continue Playing" sections.
Four Live Streams at Once on Apple TV
With iOS 27.2, the Multiview feature in the Apple TV app has arrived on iPhone. Users can watch up to four live sports streams included in their Apple TV subscription simultaneously. Supported broadcasts include Major League Soccer (MLS), Formula 1 (F1) in the US, and Friday Night Baseball doubleheaders aired during the Major League Baseball season.
Profiles can also be created from iPhone and iPad in the Apple TV app. A profile only requires a name, profile rating, and information on whether the user is a child. A child profile is restricted to a PG rating by default, but age ratings can also be selected separately via customization options.
New Features in FaceTime and iPhone Duo
As we mentioned, this update has arrived as the largest release of 27. Now, the Dual Capture feature in FaceTime can also be used in group calls. This feature allows video streaming from both the front and rear cameras simultaneously. On a compatible device running iOS 27, Dual Capture turns on automatically when the camera is switched during a call. The feature works on iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, iPhone Air, iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and iPhone Duo. Additionally, a third-party sign language interpreter or live captioning service can be added to calls.
For iPhone Duo, iOS 27.2 brings USB-C support for the Apple Pencil. An Edge Light feature that illuminates the face during video calls has also been added.
Phone and Clock App
The Call Context feature in the Phone app reminds you of a contact's anniversary when you call them, provided the contact is saved in the Contacts app.
In the Clock app's alarm list, AM and PM labels are displayed smaller.
Shortcuts App Gains New Automations
With iOS 27, new automations, actions, and improvements are coming to the Shortcuts app. A "when iPhone is opened or closed" automation has been added for iPhone Duo. Workout automation supports the Fitness app. App automation, on the other hand, can provide the name of the closed app.
Security Fixes
Perhaps what makes this update most special is the security fixes. Because iOS 27.2 patches more than 160 security vulnerabilities. Apple states that none of these vulnerabilities are being actively exploited. Still, we can say that installing an update with this many fixes is always a good idea.
Additionally, Apple is offering an expanded alternative prompt for European Union users for App Tracking Transparency. This prompt is re-displayed annually. The alternative prompt is mandatory for users in France, Germany, Italy, Poland, and Romania.
Apple's redesigned Health app was tested in the iOS 27.2 beta version, but it will not be released until later this year and is not included in iOS 27.2.
